How do I get there?

Both Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Norwegian have direct routes to Longyearbyen Airport from the Norwegian capital of Oslo and from the city of Tromsø every day throughout the year.

Book with Norwegian here.

Where can I stay?

There is a wide range of accommodation available in Longyearbyen.

See an overview and book hotels or hostels here.

In addition, there is an excellent campsite right next to the airport, which you can book here.

What is the weather like?

In summer, average temperatures are usually between -3°C and -10°C / 27°F-14 °F. Technically, Svalbard is an Arctic dessert, and summers are usually clear and perpetually sunlit, but it does rain/sleet from time to time, and storms can be harsh. So be come prepared for anything.

What do I need to bring?

If you are joining a single day trek, we recommend a good pair of boots and a warm jacket.

If you are joining a multi day trek or a course, you need to bring your own basic equipment. See the list here.

What can I buy in town?

There are several well-stocked outdoor outlets where you can purchase all common brands of equipment, provisions and fuel you will need. In addition, there is a single well-stocked super market, where you can purchase food and goods. If in doubt about the availability of something you need, do not hesitate to ask.

What means of payment can I use?

You can book and pay your trek right here on the website. If in doubt or if you experience any problems, do not hesitate to ask. Stores in Longyearbyen accept all common credit cards, Norwegian Kroner, US Dollars and Euro.
